The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested Faruq Malik, a resident of Basirhat, in connection with Bengal’s ongoing cartridge smuggling case. A double-barrel gun was recovered from him. This comes after a major STF operation on Saturday in Jibantala, where 190 live cartridges were seized, and four people were taken into custody. Investigations have revealed that Faruq had purchased weapons from Haji Rashid Molla, a Jibantala resident who has also been arrested. Authorities suspect the involvement of a licensed firearm dealer under investigation for illegally supplying weapons.
Officials are now tracing the supply chain and verifying if the seized ammunition and firearms are linked to other cases. The recovered gun and cartridges have been sent for forensic analysis. Further interrogations are underway to identify additional suspects and determine the extent of the smuggling network. STF sources indicate that more arrests are expected as part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal arms trade in the region.
